The First Vice President of the Nigerian Bar Association, John Aikpokpo-Martins and the NBA National Welfare Secretary, Olakunle Edun, have requested Chairman Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, LPDC, to commence hearing against the CCT Chairman, Danladi Umar since he has failed to respond to the petition.
Aikpokpo-Martins and Kunle had in a Complaint marked BB/LPDC/489/2021, petitioned the LPDC to sanction the CCT Chair for violently abusing a Security guard at Banex Plaza in Wuse, Abuja, on Monday, 29th March.
According to the National Officers, Umar’s conduct has considerably ridiculed and diminished both himself and the Judiciary in Nigeria and that such behaviour is indecorous, unfitting for a judicial officer.
The lawyer to the petitioners, Chukwuemeka Clement, in a letter made available to TheNigeriaLawyer addressed to the Chairman LPDC, dated 5th July, 2021 requested that the hearing should commence because the matter has attracted public interest thus there is need to hear it expeditiously to protect the image of the legal profession.
“The nature of the Petition and the personality of the Respondent has attracted much public interest and therefore, the need to quickly hear and determine the Petition in the interest of the continued good image of the legal profession and the general public.” the letter reads in part
They also called for quick and positive response to their request.
TheNigeriaLawyer had reported how the CCT boss was caught on camera physically assaulting Mr Sargwak, at Banex Plaza, Wuse 2, Abuja, on March 29.
Mr Umar, in the five-minute viral video clip, was seen slapping and kicking the security guard – after an altercation ensued between them over a parking space on the premises of the plaza
