A clergyman and two security operatives have reportedly been arrested in Plateau State over an alleged conspiracy to kidnap the wives of two prominent bishops in Jos.

The suspects were identified as Reverend Hassan Yunisim Mijah, 42, of Tudun Wada, Jos North; Sergeant Ezra Sunday, a Nigerian Air Force personnel; and OS Usman Khalid, a Nigerian Navy personnel.

The two security personnel were reportedly attached to Sector 1 of Operation ENDURING PEACE in Jos.

According to a report by counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the arrests followed intelligence received by the Plateau State Police Command concerning an alleged criminal conspiracy and planned kidnapping.

The incident was said to have occurred at about 2:10 p.m. on August 7, 2026.

The suspects allegedly plotted to abduct the wives of Bishop Ephraim Gongden and retired Bishop Benjamin Kwashi, who reportedly reside in the Rantya area of Jos South Local Government Area.

Upon receiving the intelligence, police operatives led by the Commander of the Vigilance and Criminal Response Unit reportedly commenced an operation which resulted in the arrest of the three suspects.

The report further claimed that the suspects made statements during interrogation concerning the alleged plot.

Operation ENDURING PEACE was said to have been formally notified of the arrest of the Air Force and Navy personnel attached to the operation.

Investigators are reportedly working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged conspiracy and determine whether other persons were involved.

The police are also said to be making efforts to identify and apprehend other suspected members of the alleged criminal network.

However, the Plateau State Police Command had not publicly confirmed the arrests at the time of the initial report.

Police spokesperson Alfred Alabo was contacted for confirmation but had yet to provide an official response.

The allegations against the three suspects have not been tested before a court, and they remain presumed innocent unless and until found guilty in accordance with law.
