A government-sponsored protest, aimed at countering the growing #EndBadGovernmentInNigeria movement, has been seen occupying Eagle Square, a popular venue for public events in Abuja.
Recall that FCT minister Nyesom Wike had commented on Sunday about the venue, saying, “Who are these people who want to protest? They have applied to me to grant Eagle Square. Do you apply to me through social media?” He claimed he hadn’t received an official letter regarding the protest against the Nigerian government.
As of now, details are limited regarding the scale of the alleged government-sponsored counter-protest or whether there have been any clashes between the opposing groups. The situation continues to develop.
