*As Super Falcons Named CAF Women’s National Team of the Year

Super Falcons and Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, has been crowned the 2025 CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for the third consecutive year, further cementing her status as Africa’s premier shot-stopper.

The announcement was made at the prestigious CAF awards ceremony held at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Rabat, Morocco. Nnadozie, 24, edged out Morocco’s Khadija Er-Rmichi and South Africa’s Andile Dlamini to secure the accolade.

Nnadozie’s stellar performances for both club and country earned her the award. At Paris FC, she helped lift the Coupe de France Féminine, and played a pivotal role in the Super Falcons’ record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, keeping four clean sheets and winning the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper award.

She has since joined Brighton & Hove Albion in the Women’s Super League (WSL), where she made an immediate impact by winning Player of the Match on her debut, as well as WSL Save of the Month and PFA Fans’ Player of the Month awards.

In addition, Nigeria’s Super Falcons were named CAF Women’s National Team of the Year for the third year running, having also won the award in 2023 and 2024. They clinched the title after outperforming Ghana’s Black Queens and Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses, following their 10th WAFCON triumph in August 2024.

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, received the award on behalf of the team, praising their consistency and dominance in African women’s football.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Super Eagles have climbed three spots to 38th in the latest FIFA World Rankings, despite falling short in the African World Cup Qualifying Play-off after a 4–3 penalty defeat to DR Congo. FIFA officially records the match as a draw, following Nigeria’s 4–1 victory over Gabon earlier in the qualifiers.

The Super Eagles remain among Africa’s top five teams, trailing Morocco (11), Senegal (19), Egypt (34), and Algeria (35). Globally, Spain, Argentina, France, and England hold the top four positions, with Brazil now fifth, ahead of the Netherlands and Portugal. Germany and Croatia complete the top 10.
