The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has issued directives in view of the recent developments in the Commission.

These directives are contained in separate public notices dated 23rd day of July, 2020 which were made available to the TheNigeriaLawyer.

Firstly, the Commission stated that all pre-incorporation certificates are henceforth to be delivered to customers without the need for them to come to the Commission, through designated Courier Companies.

“This is to inform our esteemed Customers that the Commission as a responsible Corporate entity, has reviewed its operations in order to cope with the unabating scourge of COVID-19 Pandemic and in line with the Presidential Task Force guidelines does safe service delivery to Customers.

“To this end, all Pre-incorporation Certificates are henceforth to be delivered to Customers by designated Courier Companies with effect from Friday 24th July, 2020.

“Customers are to handover the Original Documents to the Courier Companies in exchange for the Certificates.”

In another development, effective from 10th day of August, 2020 and 31st August, 2020, customers in Lagos and Abuja are by the directive prohibited from coming to the Commission.

“This is to inform our esteemed Customers that the Commission in an effort to provide efficient services in the face of the present realities of the COVID-19 Pandemic has resolved that Customers will no longer be required to physically visit the Commission’s premises in Abuja and Lagos to carry out official transactions.

“Therefore, with effect from 10th August, 2020 and 31st August, 2020, Customers in Abuja and Lagos respectively will be required to send and receive documents from the Commission through designated Courier Companies.

“This is to control the physical presence of Customers coming to submit or pick up documents in the premises and also ensure their convenience in getting access to our services.”

Besides, CAC stated that it would put in place means of conveying documents to customers.

“The Commission will also put in place a process for sending/receiving documents/ transactions to/from Customers through emails.”

Finally, it enjoined customers to ensure that their documents are properly signed in the face of the new development.

“Customers should note that the new process has placed a responsibility on them to ensure that their documents are duly signed by the persons whose names appear therein in any transaction they present for filing”. It concluded.

TheNigeriaLawyer recalls that Lawyers had earlier protested in Abuja & Lagos offices of CAC in view of the problems they are witnessing by virtue of the operations of CAC in recent times.
