A British TikTok influencer, Brooke George, is facing a premeditated murder charge in Dubai following the death of her boyfriend in an alleged stabbing incident.

George, 23, from Gravesend, Kent, was arrested in the early hours of June 22 after the death of a man she had reportedly met online and later entered into a relationship with.

According to the advocacy group, Detained in Dubai, George maintains that she acted in self-defence during an alleged violent attack by her partner while they were in the United Arab Emirates.

The group said George claimed she grabbed a kitchen knife after allegedly being assaulted by her boyfriend and fearing for her life.

She is currently being held at Bur Dubai Police Station, while Detained in Dubai has called for her release on bail and urged the authorities to treat the case as one involving alleged domestic violence and self-defence.

The organisation also raised concerns over George’s alleged treatment in custody, claiming that she was forced to strip in front of male officers without a female officer present. George reportedly described the experience as “deeply humiliating and distressing.”

Radha Stirling, Chief Executive of Detained in Dubai, said George’s relationship allegedly became abusive during her second visit to Dubai.

Stirling claimed that George’s partner became “increasingly controlling and abusive” and that the influencer had been trying to leave the country after he allegedly punched her, withheld her passport and attacked her again at their apartment.

She said George “feared for her life and, reaching for a kitchen knife within her grasp, acted in self defence.”

George’s mother, Thereza George, also expressed concern for her daughter’s welfare, saying her behaviour had changed shortly before the incident.

“After Brooke returned to Dubai for the second time, the dynamic between them had clearly changed,” she said.

“The day before the incident, she did not seem like herself. She was quieter and not her usual happy, cheerful self, but she did not tell me why.

“That evening they went to a bar in Dubai. When I spoke to Brooke right after the incident, she was absolutely terrified. I have never seen my daughter so frightened in my life. She was crying uncontrollably. I could see that one of her eyes was badly swollen and was beginning to close.”

She added that she firmly believed her daughter was trying to return home and escape whatever had happened to her.

“The daughter I spoke to that night was utterly terrified,” she said.

“I firmly believe she was desperately trying to get home and away from whatever had happened to her.”

Stirling further claimed that people close to George feared she may have been lured to Dubai under false pretences for exploitation.

According to her, those concerns were based on the alleged change in her partner’s behaviour, a one-way ticket, a professional bikini photo shoot reportedly arranged during George’s first visit, the alleged withholding of her passport, and messages in which George allegedly told friends that “things weren’t right.”

Detained in Dubai also alleged that George had not been granted access to British consular officials and had made statements without legal representation.

The group said the case raises serious questions about domestic violence, self-defence, due process and the treatment of foreign nationals detained abroad.

Reacting to the case, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said it was providing support.

“We are in touch with a British woman detained in the UAE, we are supporting her family, and we are in contact with the local authorities,” the FCDO said.

The case has continued to attract public attention amid concerns over George’s welfare, the circumstances of the fatal incident and the legal process facing her in Dubai.
