The Body of Benchers, Nigeria’s apex legal regulatory body, has launched Q-Soft Denovo—Africa’s first indigenous court recording and transcription system.

The initiative, championed by Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, marks a significant step toward efficiency, transparency, and judicial excellence within Nigeria’s legal profession.

As the highest decision-making body in the justice sector, the Body of Benchers oversees the formal Call to the Bar and the discipline of erring lawyers. With Q-Soft Denovo, the institution reinforces its commitment to leveraging technology for more effective legal oversight.

The unveiling ceremony attracted legal luminaries, including Chief Adetokunbo Kayode, SAN; Funke Adekoya, SAN; M.A. Abubakar, SAN; Funmi Quadri, SAN; and the Chairman of the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC), Hon. Justice Dr. Ishaq Bello, OFR. Also present were LPDC members, responsible for adjudicating cases of professional misconduct under the Legal Practitioners Act.

Hon. Justice Dr. Ishaq Bello, OFR, emphasized the system’s effectiveness, stating:

“We have tested it, and we no longer worry about extensive manual recordings because it works perfectly.”

By automating real-time recording and transcription, Q-Soft Denovo eliminates delays, errors, and inefficiencies associated with manual documentation, ensuring faster and more accurate disciplinary proceedings.

Early results show that the system has tripled judicial productivity. Notably, one judge, using Q-Soft Denovo, delivered 110 judgments in a single quarter, surpassing the National Judicial Council’s benchmark of 24 judgments per quarter.

This initiative positions Nigeria as a leader in legal tech adoption across Africa. The Body of Benchers, under Chief Awomolo’s leadership, has set a precedent for digital transformation, reinforcing its commitment to a more transparent, accountable, and efficient legal system.

The leadership of Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, deserves commendation for this remarkable innovation.
