The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has re-enlisted former Bayelsa Governor Timipre Sylva as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the November 11 governorship election in the state.

This follows last week’s Appeal Court judgement setting aside the Federal High Court ruling that earlier disqualified Sylva from contesting the election.

The Federal High Court in Abuja had ruled that Sylva was constitutionally barred from contesting again having been sworn-in twice and ruled for five years as Bayelsa governor.

But the Appeal Court held that the plaintiff who filed the suit lacked the locus standi and overturned the judgement.

With the higher court’s decision, INEC has now restored Sylva as the APC flagbearer barely days to the crucial Bayelsa governorship poll.

Sylva, a former Minister of State for Petroleum, will now face off with candidates of other parties including the incumbent Governor Douye Diri of the PDP.

The commission has reiterated its readiness to conduct free, fair and credible elections in Bayelsa and Kogi also holding governorship polls on November 11.
