Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has placed Ibom Air passenger, Comfort Emmanson, on its “no-fly” list indefinitely.

This followed allegations that Emmanson assaulted Ibom Air crew members and clashed with airport security at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, after which she was charged to court.

AON spokesperson, Professor Obiora Okonkwo, stated that Emmanson’s actions were not just disruptive but constituted a sustained attack that endangered the lives of crew, passengers, and the integrity of the aircraft.

According to AON, incidents of unruly behaviour on flights have become far too frequent, citing the recent cases involving Nigerian musician Wasiu Ayinde on ValueJet and the alleged unruly conduct of Senator Adams Oshiomhole towards Air Peace staff.

The statement reads:

“The incident, as described by Ibom Air, began with the passenger’s refusal to comply with safety instructions regarding mobile phone usage, escalating into a brutal physical assault on Ibom Air crew members and an attempted use of a fire extinguisher as a weapon.

This constitutes one of the most severe cases of unruly passenger behaviour witnessed this year. It was not merely disruptive; it was a sustained, violent attack that placed the lives of crew, passengers, and the aircraft itself at risk.

This behaviour is unacceptable. Effective immediately, the AON has placed Emmanson on its no-fly list indefinitely. She is banned for life from flying with any AON member airline, domestically or internationally.

Such incidents have become too many, with recent examples being the incident involving Nigerian musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1) on ValueJet and the unruly behaviour of Senator Adams Oshiomhole towards Air Peace staff.

It is also worth noting that this incident exposes vulnerabilities in the security response by Aviation Security (AVSEC). The AON urgently calls on FAAN to review and strengthen security procedures at all airports nationwide.

The AON stands united with Ibom Air and all our members in maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards unruly passengers. Going forward, anyone who exhibits such behaviour will face similar consequences.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Tunde Moshood, spokesperson to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, confirmed in a post on X that Emmanson has been charged to court and is currently being remanded at Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison in Lagos.

Moshood wrote:

“The more reason the flying public should be more careful the unruly passenger on the Uyo–Lagos-bound Ibom Air flight, Miss Comfort Emmanson, has been charged to court and is now cooling off in Kirikiri.”
