Popular Nigerian comedian AY Makun has officially confirmed the rumors of his separation from his wife, Mabel, after twenty years of marriage.

The couple, who share two children together, had recently unfollowed each other on Instagram, fueling speculation about their relationship.

In a heartfelt post on his verified Instagram account on Sunday, April 7th, 2024, AY Makun addressed the situation, stating that he has reached a stage in his life where he cannot entertain the public with deep personal family issues. He emphasized the need to protect the mental health of his grown-up daughter, who has access to social media and should not be exposed to things she cannot be proud of online.

AY Makun admitted that he has found himself doing things he is not proud of today, without compromising his family. He expressed his disappointment in watching his friendship and marriage of 20 years slip away, while acknowledging that no one is completely innocent enough to cast stones.

The comedian also pointed out the disparity between the speed at which lies about him travel compared to the truth, but he remains confident that his painful truth will eventually overcome the lies.

In response to her husband’s post, Mabel Makun shared a quote on her Instagram account, stating, “Distance is my new response to disrespect. I don’t react. I don’t argue. I don’t dive into the drama. I simply remove myself.”

The confirmation of the couple’s separation has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and sparked discussions about the challenges of maintaining long-term relationships in the public eye.
