NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has taken a major step in preparing for the Association’s 2026 national elections by appointing members of the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA). The appointments were formally approved by the NBA National Executive Council (NEC) during its quarterly meeting in Benin City, Edo State, on November 20, 2025.

The move aligns with Section 10 of the NBA Constitution, which establishes the ECNBA as an independent body responsible for conducting elections for the NBA’s national offices and for representatives to the General Council of the Bar. President Osigwe presented the proposed committee members to NEC, which subsequently endorsed the appointments.

The newly approved committee comprises:

Position Name
Chairman Aham Ejelam, SAN
Secretary Ibrahim Aliyu Nasarawa
Member Muhammad M. Nuhu
Member Uju Okafor
Member Ume Maduka

Describing the appointments as a demonstration of the Association’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and integrity, Osigwe said the early approval is intended to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process.

The ECNBA is expected to begin preparations for the 2026 elections, including drafting election guidelines, reviewing accreditation procedures, and setting timelines for candidate nominations and campaign activities.
