The Council of Legal Education (CLE) has issued guidelines for addressing major queries that may arise during the application process for admission into the Nigerian Law School.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, the CLE said it is committed to ensuring that all applicants to the Nigerian Law School undergo a fair and transparent admission process.

“These guidelines are designed to ensure that all applicants are treated fairly and consistently, and that any issues or discrepancies that arise are addressed in a timely and satisfactory manner,” the Council stated.

Name Discrepancies

On name discrepancies, the Council outlined two scenarios:

Error by the Applicant: If a name discrepancy is discovered and it is determined that the error was made by the applicant, he/she must depose to an affidavit affirming the error and stating the correct names and arrangement, as verified by the University.

Error by the University: If a name discrepancy is identified and it is established that the error originated from the university, the university must provide a written acknowledgement of the error, stating the correct names and arrangement. The acknowledgment must be issued on the university’s official letterhead and duly signed by the Registrar.

Missing Or Incomplete Documents

The Council also addressed situations involving missing or incomplete documents:

Failure to submit required certificates: If an applicant fails to submit a copy of certificates, such as WAEC or LLB certificate, the applicant must provide the required certificate which must be submitted to the Secretary to Council and Director of Administration (SDA).

Failure to Attach Letter of Transfer: If an applicant fails to attach a letter of transfer from another University, the applicant must provide the required document. The letter of transfer must be issued on the university’s official letterhead and duly signed by the appropriate university official.

The guidelines stated that if an applicant has an unaccounted period in their application, the applicant must depose to an affidavit stating their whereabouts during the unaccounted period.

On incomplete forms, the Council directed as follows:

If an applicant fails to submit Form C, he/she must complete the Form and depose to an affidavit affirming the information provided therein.

For employment history and other periods section not filled, the applicant must complete the required section and submit same to the Secretary to Council and Director of Administration.

The Council directed that all responses to queries must be forwarded to the Office of the Secretary to Council of Legal Education/Director of Administration (SDA) with a covering letter attached, stating the Applicant’s Name, University and Query.

Responses must be submitted within one week upon receipt of the query, via dispatch or courier service, unless the applicant resides in Abuja or has a representative who can submit the response on their behalf.
