Ifeoluwa, a son of former Inspector General of Police, Sunday Ehindero, has been declared the winner of the last Saturday’s House of Representatives seat for the Akoko Northwest/Akoko Northeast federal constituency.

He contested under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside seven other political parties.

Ifeoluwa polled 35,504 votes to defeat his closest rival, Olalekan Bada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 15,328 votes.

Returning Officer of the election, Professor Johnson Fasinmirin, who declared Ehindero winner said the total votes cast were 51,896.

Prof. Fasinmirin said the valid votes cast were 51,341 while 555 votes were rejected.

He said: “I hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the 2024 Akoko North-East and Akoko North-West Federal Constituency By-election held on Feb. 3.

“The election was contested and Ehindero Ifeoluwa Babajide of APC polled 35,504 while Bada Olalekan Oladapo scored 15,328.

“That Ehindero Ifeoluwa Babajide of APC having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and return elected.”

The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Ishmail Adeshina scored 213 votes to come a distant third.

The total number of registered voters in the constituency was 145,755. Akoko Northeast had 74,564 voters who collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) while 71,191 collected PVCs in Akoko North-West.

The spokesman of the Ondo PDP, Kennedy Peretei, had boasted that the PDP would use the by-election to show the world that the party was still kicking and alive in the state.

The state chairman of the Ondo APC, Ade Adetimehin said the outcome of the by-election was a confirmation that the PDP has become extinct in the state.

Adetimehin stated that bigwigs of the PDP have dumped the party for the APC.

He praised the people of the constituency for believing in the ideals of the progressives.

He stated: “Our victory is for the people. It is a confirmation that the APC remained the only political party in Ondo State.

“We campaigned and the people believed Ehindero will follow the footsteps of Hon Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo to bring dividends of democracy to them.”
