The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all the chairmanship and councillorship positions in Saturday’s local government election.

Declaring the results on Sunday at its headquarters in Makurdi, the Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, Richard Tombowua, announced that the APC won all 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship elections held in the state.

According to him, “The election held yesterday across the state went smoothly without hitches. It was free and fair, and the returning officers have submitted all the results from the field.”

“From the results, the All Progressives Congress won all 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship positions.”

The chairman noted that five out of the eight political parties that submitted lists of candidates participated in Saturday’s election.

He listed the parties that participated in the election as the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, Social Democratic Party, and All Progressives Grand Alliance.

In response, the state chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, who is also with the Labour Party, Ibrahim Idoko, commended the commission for its commitment to conducting a hitch-free election.

Idoko, who also praised the state governor, Hyacinth Alia, for providing a level playing field for all parties in the election, stated that his party would review the outcome of the election and make its position known at a later date.
