The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to party members expressing support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, describing such actions as “anti-party” and vowing to invoke stiffer sanctions if the trend continues.
In a statement released on Friday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP condemned the open declaration of support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its 2027 presidential candidate by some of its prominent members, stating that such conduct violates the party’s constitution.
“In the light of the foregoing and the instancy of protecting and preserving the existence of our Party and its electoral fortune, the NWC, pursuant to the provisions of Section 59 (1) of the PDP Constitution, hereby issues a strong reprimand against such anti-party activities and cautions those involved to retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions,” the statement read.
The party expressed dismay over persistent public utterances by some members aligning with the ruling APC, stressing that their support for President Tinubu undermines the PDP’s unity, loyalty, and electoral standing.
The statement cited Section 10 (6) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), which clearly states: “No member of the party shall align with other parties or groups to undermine the party or any of its elected government.”
According to the NWC, such actions have “continued to negatively impact the PDP, leading to division, disaffection, and heavy hemorrhaging of members, with the capacity to diminish our party’s electoral fortune if not immediately checked.”
The party urged its members to remain loyal, focused, and committed to the success of the upcoming PDP National Convention slated for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
This caution comes amid a growing wave of high-profile endorsements for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition by PDP chieftains.
On July 28, 2025, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, a PDP member, openly endorsed President Tinubu and Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for second terms, during an APC event in Ado Ekiti.
Similarly, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and the state PDP declared support for President Tinubu’s re-election in a statement released after a strategic meeting with party leaders.
While reaffirming his loyalty to the PDP, Adeleke stated, “Our party in Osun has also endorsed President Tinubu for re-election in 2027, recognising him as a proud son of our state.”
