Former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, has dismissed claims made by a former Department of State Services operative, identified as Mr. Amachree, concerning the final moments of the late military ruler.

Speaking with journalists in Kaduna, Al-Mustapha described the account contained in the former DSS officer’s book as false, alleging that the author was influenced by others to publish what he called lies.

According to him, the claims made about Abacha’s death did not reflect what actually happened.

“The boy was asked to write the lies by others. I have all the CCTV footage of what happened in my custody, so what he said is not true,” Al-Mustapha said.

He urged members of the public to disregard the account, saying it was wrong to make false claims about a person who is no longer alive to defend himself.

“Just ignore his lies. It’s bad to say such things about someone that is dead,” he added.

In the account attributed to Amachree, the former DSS operative claimed that at about 2:40 a.m., shortly after General Jeremiah Useni left, Abacha’s girlfriend, described as an Igbo lady, arrived at the Aso Rock Guest House from the Nicon Noga Hilton Hotel with her younger sister, a pharmacist who was allegedly in Abuja for a conference.

According to excerpts from the book, Abacha had reportedly bought the girlfriend a new SUV, and the two women stopped by to greet him.

The account further claimed that Abacha became interested in the younger sister, after which the girlfriend allegedly returned to the hotel, leaving the pharmacist alone with the Head of State.

Amachree alleged that at about 4:05 a.m., while Abacha and the pharmacist were getting intimate, the pharmacist noticed that he had stopped moving, called out to him and discovered that he was unresponsive and stiff.

The account claimed that she checked his pulse and found none.

It further alleged that the woman, in panic, dressed quickly and left the guest house, telling a soldier on guard duty that Abacha had requested a car to take her back to the hotel.

According to the account, the soldier, unaware of what had happened, arranged transportation for her. She allegedly returned to the Hilton, informed her sister and was later driven to the Abuja airport to catch a 7 a.m. Okada Airline flight to Lagos.

Amachree also claimed that he later interrogated the pharmacist in Lagos after being directed by the DSS Director of Operations at the national headquarters in Abuja.

According to him, the first thing the woman allegedly said was, “I did not kill him, he died on top of me.”

He claimed that he then contacted the Director of National Operations in Abuja and immediately sent the woman back to Abuja.

Al-Mustapha, however, rejected the entire account, insisting that it was false and that he had evidence to contradict the claims made about Abacha’s death.
