President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media and blogs suggesting that Senator Sani Musa was “rubbished” during a recent plenary session over his alleged inability to define the word “harmonised.”

In a statement issued to journalists on Friday in Abuja, Akpabio refuted the reports, describing them as entirely untrue and a misrepresentation of events on the Senate floor.
He clarified that no such incident occurred during the session. According to him, when Senator Musa was recognised to speak, Senator Abdul Ningi raised a point of order that required immediate procedural consideration in line with the Senate’s standing rules.
“The session proceeded in an orderly fashion, and at no point was Senator Sani Musa ridiculed or embarrassed,” Akpabio said.
He further commended Senator Musa’s contributions, particularly in his role as Chairman of the Joint Committee on Finance and Chairman of the Conference Committee responsible for harmonising the Tax Reform Bills—an effort that received commendation from both legislative chambers and key stakeholders.
Akpabio reiterated that the Nigerian Senate remains guided by principles of respect, decorum, and institutional integrity. He cautioned media organisations against the spread of sensational or inaccurate reports and urged a commitment to responsible journalism, especially in reporting the activities of the National Assembly and its members.
