Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has written another letter to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, demanding a retraction of her sexual harassment allegations against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

In the letter dated April 14, Agbakoba requested that the senator representing Kogi Central provide evidence to support her allegations of sexual harassment against the Senate President.

Recall that the allegation led to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension from the Senate.

Addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Lagos, Agbakoba said the latest letter became necessary as the embattled senator had failed to address significant contradictions in her allegations, as requested in his initial letter.

He noted that instead of clarifying the inconsistencies in her claim—that Akpabio sexually harassed her on December 8, 2023—and her praise of the same individual on social media on December 9, 2023, Akpoti-Uduaghan opted to delete the social media post.

The former NBA president said:
“Recall that in our first letter to you, we requested clarification of contradictions in your allegation against our client, Akpabio.

“Of note is the contradiction regarding the timeline and dates. You have failed to clarify your sexual harassment allegation on December 8, 2023, and your praise of Akpabio on your social media accounts (Instagram and X/Twitter) on December 9, 2023—the day after the alleged incident.

“Rather than clarify this contradiction, you deleted the social media post, which we find extremely concerning.”

Agbakoba further told journalists that regardless of public opinion about Akpabio, the burden of proof rests with Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

He also questioned the long delay before the senator made the allegation public.

“You claim that the harassment occurred on December 8, 2023, but your allegation was not made until February 28, 2025—over one year and two months later?

“Additionally, instead of distancing yourself from your alleged harasser, you were seen throughout 2024 attending numerous legislative and non-legislative events—both locally and internationally—with Akpabio.

“For instance, you were seen together at the Inter-Parliamentary Union session in Geneva on March 24 and 25, 2024. In fact, you took several selfies and group photos with him during these events.

“These events were posted in warm tones on your social media platforms. Please see attached screenshots of your Facebook posts and other photos taken with Akpabio. We find this contradictory and unbelievable.

“In light of this, and your continued failure to address the inconsistencies pointed out in our first letter, we demand that you retract the sexual harassment allegations against our client, as they are clearly false and unsubstantiated,” Agbakoba declared.
