Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally joined the Accord Party, weeks after exiting the Peoples Democratic Party, announcing he will seek re-election on the platform of the Thumb Up Party in 2026.

The declaration was made on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Osun State Government House, where the governor received national and state leaders of the Accord Party.

Adeleke disclosed that he had secretly joined the party over a month ago, stating, “I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. This was after weeks of consultation and deliberation with stakeholders and opinion leaders.”

He said residents of the state were already aware of the circumstances leading to his decision, noting that the move would enable him complete ongoing governance reforms and development projects widely praised within and outside Osun.

According to him, the Accord Party’s welfarist ideology aligns closely with his administration’s focus on citizen and worker welfare.

“I welcome our party leaders into the Osun State Government House. You are now part of us, as I am also now part of you. We are united in progress and good intentions for the people of Osun State and Nigeria,” he said.

Adeleke urged party leaders and supporters to maintain a united front as preparations begin for the 2026 polls, emphasising the need for inclusive leadership.

“Since I joined the party more than a month ago, I have been fascinated by the philosophy of this great party. The focus on people’s welfare should always be at the heart of public leadership,” he added.

He highlighted his administration’s achievements across welfare, infrastructure, and social services, describing them as unprecedented in the state’s history.

Adeleke then unveiled Accord as the “new platform” for Osun voters, urging residents across all zones and communities to identify with the party ahead of the August 2026 governorship election.

“Osun voted for good governance in 2022 and they will support continuity in 2026. The mass of our people are for continuity, and Accord is our party for victory next year,” he said.

He concluded by declaring formally: “In accordance with the will of our stakeholders and in deep respect for the wishes of Osun people, I hereby declare for the Accord Party.”
