The Governing Council of the University of Abuja, now Yakubu Gowon University, has approved the appointments of Professors Rosemary Kanene Udeozor and Muhammad Umar Ndagi as Deputy Vice-Chancellors, while extending Malam Sambo Mohammed’s tenure as Acting Registrar.

The appointments were ratified at the Council’s 82nd Extraordinary Meeting on Friday, February 13, 2026, chaired by Senator Dr. Olanrewaju Tejuoso, at the university’s main campus.

According to a statement by Acting Director, Information and University Relations, Dr. Habib Yakoob, Professor Udeozor will serve as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), while Professor Ndagi assumes the role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration). Both appointments take effect from February 13 for a two-year term under the university’s extant laws.

The statement noted that the duo had earlier emerged unopposed at the 93rd Extraordinary Meeting of the University Senate on February 11, 2026, following recommendations by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi. Both academics pledged to support the university’s strategic vision and collaborate closely with the Vice-Chancellor to foster a stable and productive academic environment.

Professor Udeozor, a scholar in Educational Administration and Planning, joined the university in 1995 and became a professor in 2009, having held several strategic leadership roles on campus and in professional bodies.

Professor Ndagi, an authority in Arabic linguistics, brings over 45 years of teaching experience and decades of administrative service, having served as Dean, Deputy Dean, and chair of multiple university committees.

In a related development, the Council approved the extension of Malam Sambo Mohammed as Acting Registrar. Initially appointed on November 11, 2025, for a three-month term, he will continue in the role pending the appointment of a substantive Registrar.
