ABUBAKAR TAFAWA BALEWA UNIVERSITY NEEDS PRESIDENTIAL CONSENT FOR DISPOSAL OF LAND.

ABUBAKAR TAFAWA BALEWA UNIVERSITY (ATBU) in Bauchi was established in 1980 as the Federal University of Technology, Bauchi. It was later merged with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1984 but separated in 1988 and named Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University.

By the 1988 federal law establishing the ATBU, the university cannot dispose of any land without the written consent of the President of Nigeria. This does not affect lease and tenancy, except where a lease is for more than twenty-one (21) years or the lease/tenancy is for a member of the University for residential purposes.
