The Benue State Judiciary has announced the death of a former Chief Judge of the state, Hon. Justice Adam Ochume Onum, describing his passing as a profound loss to the judiciary, the legal profession and Nigeria.

The announcement was made in an official statement issued on Thursday, November 5, 2026, by Jooli Terna David, Protocol Officer of the High Court of Justice, Makurdi, on behalf of the Chief Judge of Benue State.
The judiciary expressed sadness over the death of the former Chief Judge, acknowledging his contributions to the administration of justice and the development of the legal profession.
According to the statement, Justice Onum would be remembered for his integrity, intellectual depth and unwavering commitment to the fair administration of justice.
The judiciary noted that his passing represented a loss not only to the Benue State judicial system but also to the wider Nigerian legal community.
It extended heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and members of the judiciary, expressing sympathy with everyone affected by his death.
The statement also disclosed that arrangements for his funeral and a valedictory court session in his honour would be announced in due course.
The judiciary prayed that God would grant the late Justice Onum eternal rest and give his family, loved ones and colleagues the strength to bear the loss.
