The IGP has also ordered the probe of how the police led by a top-ranking officer were used to secure the services of a Magistrate court in Mpabe to secure illegal detention of Anosike in Kuje Prison for seven days when the same matter was already in Appeal Court. The IGP’s directive, which led to the invasion of Obiora’s residence in Abuja on Thursday morning, followed a strong petition written by Anosike to the Police High Command, the Attorney General of the Federation and other security agencies, drawing their attention to the injustice being meted out to him and his management staff by Obiora and the police. However, effort to arrest Obiora, who is laying a strong case to the ownership of the premier newspaper, flopped as he was not at home when detachment of policemen dispatched by the IGP stormed his house. Speaking to Saturday Vanguard on the matter, the Publisher of Daily Times of Nigeria, Fidelis Anosike, pleaded with the police and other law enforcement agencies in Nigeria to take concrete steps to bring the perpetrators of injustice against him and his key management staff to book to serve as a deterrent to others. Anosike lamented the involvement of a top police officer, who is about to retire in the next few weeks in the manipulation of the police force and the magistrate court in Mpape to send him to jail without any recourse to the law. The publisher accused Obiora of acting in bad faith to bring down the progress being made by DTN, by engaging in unending legal tussles and outright bid to destabilise the firm. He stated that apart from causing his illegal detention in Abuja, he also caused some disruptions in the company’s offices in Lagos, thereby making the firm to incur enormous losses. As a result of the invasion of his rights and the damage suffered by him and DTN, Anosike said he would be filing for damages to the tune of N20 billion against Obiora. Anosike said, “I met with the Inspector General of police, who said he was not aware of my travails in the hands of the policemen and the magistrate and he was annoyed that such ever happened. He took action immediately and ordered the arrest of all the policemen and those in Agidingbi. He was pained that such a thing happened.]]>
