Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has redesignated Karim Lamido Local Government Area as an area of particular security concern for another six months following a deadly attack on Binnari community that left more than 30 residents dead and families traumatised.

The governor announced the decision after an emergency security meeting held at the EXCO Chamber of the T.Y. Danjuma House in Jalingo, the state capital, in response to the attack, which occurred on Friday, October 23, 2026.

Kefas condemned the violence and expressed concern over the loss of lives, the trauma suffered by affected families and the disruption of peace in the area.

“We have gathered to mourn those we have lost, support those affected, and agree on the actions required to protect our people,” the governor said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, insisting that those responsible for the attack would be pursued and brought to justice.

“Our long-standing peace must not be disrupted by those who seek to destroy it. We are on track to identify and apprehend the criminals who have vowed to threaten our peace and security,” he said.

The governor directed the relevant authorities to account for all missing persons, establish their whereabouts and provide the necessary support to affected individuals and families.

He also tasked security agencies with investigating the movement of the attackers, establishing their possible motives and determining whether they had links to other criminal activities.

Kefas stressed the need for a coordinated security response to protect Binnari and neighbouring communities against further attacks.

He urged traditional rulers, ward and village heads, youths and farmers to provide credible information to security agencies through appropriate channels.

The governor also called on residents and the media to verify information before sharing or publishing it, warning against the circulation of unconfirmed reports capable of heightening tension in the affected communities.

Kefas expressed condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Binnari, praying for the repose of the souls of those killed and for comfort for those affected by the tragedy.

The additional six-month designation is intended to sustain heightened security attention in Karim Lamido as the state government moves to prevent further attacks, identify those responsible for the killings and restore confidence among residents.
