The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out an eight-count criminal charge filed against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is accused of presenting himself as Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, following the Federal Government’s decision to discontinue the case before the court and refile it at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.

Justice Mohammed Umar struck out the charge on Monday after the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, informed the court that a review of the case had revealed jurisdictional issues relating to some of the alleged offences.

Oyedepo told the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, had reviewed the case file and the charge initially filed by the Inspector-General of Police and identified what he described as loopholes.

According to the DPPF, some of the documents Adeyemi was alleged to have forged while operating the purported agency were matters that should properly be prosecuted before the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.

He consequently asked Justice Umar to terminate the proceedings, explaining that a fresh charge had already been filed before the FCT High Court and that Adeyemi would be arraigned there expeditiously.

Counsel to Adeyemi, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, raised no objection to the prosecution’s application.

Justice Umar subsequently struck out the charge.

The ruling did not amount to an acquittal of Adeyemi on the allegations, as the Federal Government indicated that the case would continue before the FCT High Court under a fresh charge.

Adeyemi, 38, is being prosecuted alongside two other persons said to be at large over allegations bordering on conspiracy and forgery.

The two other suspects were identified only as Femi and Anu, with their surnames not stated in the charge.

The former charge before the Federal High Court was marked FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025.
