The Court of Appeal sitting in Sokoto has fixed Tuesday, October 6, 2026, to hear Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura’s appeal against the judgment nullifying the All Progressives Congress primary election for Zamfara North Senatorial District.

The appeal arises from a suit instituted by an aggrieved senatorial aspirant, Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, challenging the process through which Ya’u emerged as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general election.

According to Tribune, the hearing date was communicated in a court letter bearing reference number CA/S/239/2026.

The Federal High Court sitting in Gusau had, on August 31, 2026, nullified the disputed primary and ordered the APC to conduct a fresh exercise within 14 days.

Justice Hassan Dikko held that no valid primary election was conducted on May 19, as claimed by the party.

Dissatisfied with the decision, Ya’u approached the Court of Appeal in Sokoto to challenge the judgment.

In the originating suit, marked FHC/GS/CS/6/2026, Shinkafi named the APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission and Ya’u as defendants.

Shinkafi maintained that he purchased the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms, underwent screening and was cleared to participate in the contest.

He argued that he neither withdrew from the race nor consented to Ya’u’s emergence as a consensus candidate.

He consequently asked the court to invalidate the disputed nomination process and direct the APC to conduct a fresh primary involving all duly screened and cleared aspirants.

The trial court granted the request for a fresh exercise, prompting Ya’u’s appeal.

Tuesday’s scheduled proceedings concern the challenge to that judgment; the Court of Appeal has yet to determine the appeal.
