The Nigerian Navy has declared a Delta State indigene, Joseph Edesemi Bosun, wanted over allegations linking him to crude oil theft and extortion activities.

The declaration was contained in a wanted notice issued by the Naval Headquarters in Abuja and signed by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho.

According to the notice, Bosun is an indigene of Edegbene community in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.

The Navy identified his last-known address as an area around Leadwort Hotel, Obirikwere, off Airport Road, near the Obirikwere Flyover in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

“The general public is hereby notified that Joseph Edesemi Bosun, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Nigerian Navy for alleged crude oil theft and extortion activities,” the notice stated.

The Navy appealed to members of the public with credible information about Bosun’s whereabouts to contact the nearest Nigerian Navy unit, police station or any other security agency.

It also provided the telephone number 08064470441 for anyone with information that could assist security agencies in locating him.

The declaration comes amid intensified efforts by security agencies to curb crude oil theft, illegal bunkering, pipeline vandalism and other activities affecting Nigeria’s petroleum industry.

Under Nigerian law, crude oil theft and unlawful interference with petroleum infrastructure may attract prosecution under applicable criminal, petroleum and economic-sabotage legislation, depending on the circumstances and evidence gathered by investigators.

No public response from Bosun or a legal representative acting on his behalf was available at the time of filing this report.
