The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has extended its special passport intervention exercise in the United Kingdom to October 3, 2026, following a surge in demand from Nigerians seeking passport services.

The extension affects the London and Manchester centres and will now run from September 19 to October 3, 2026, under the directive of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The development was announced in a statement signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinṣola Akinlabi, on Friday, September 11.
According to the NIS, 1,477 Nigerians were successfully processed and enrolled within the first four days of the intervention, while more than half of the passports had already been produced and dispatched to applicants’ respective addresses.
“In response to the high turnout and interest shown, the Nigeria Immigration Service under the directive of the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has approved an extension of the exercise in London and Manchester from 19th September to 3rd October, 2026,” the Service said.
The NIS said the additional period was intended to create more capacity and ensure that eligible Nigerians who had not yet been attended to could access the service.
It added that operations at the London and Manchester centres were progressing smoothly despite challenges encountered on the first day of the exercise.
Applicants are required to book appointments through the website of the Nigeria High Commission in the United Kingdom before appearing at the designated centres.
They are also expected to present a completed passport application form and payment receipt, appointment slip for the intervention exercise, their current passport where applicable, and a self-addressed return envelope.
The Immigration Service reiterated that the passport application and payment processes are fully automated and cashless.
It stated that the applicable fees remain $162 for a five-year validity passport booklet and $242 for a 10-year validity booklet, stressing that applicants are not required to pay any additional fee to participate in the intervention exercise.
The NIS said further information concerning the extended dates, locations and appointment procedures would be communicated through its official channels and those of the Nigeria High Commission in the UK.
The Service also thanked Nigerians in the United Kingdom for their patience and cooperation, assuring them of its commitment to delivering efficient, transparent and responsive passport services to Nigerians in the diaspora.
The extension comes after an earlier disruption at the London intervention centre, which resulted in the exercise being moved from its initial venue to 56–57 Fleet Street, Temple, London, following what the Nigeria High Commission described as “unforeseen technical challenges.”
The UK intervention was initially scheduled to run in London and Manchester from September 7 to 19, while Aberdeen and Cardiff were scheduled for September 21 to 26.
The NIS had deployed an Abuja Passport Intervention Team to the United Kingdom as part of efforts to address passport needs among Nigerians resident in the country.
