The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) has unveiled the official logo for its 2026 Annual Conference, scheduled to hold in Umuahia, Abia State, from November 10 to November 13, 2026.

According to a statement jointly issued by the NBA-SPIDEL Chair, Prof. Uju Agomoh, and Chairman of the 2026 Annual Conference Planning Committee, Sir Ejike Ezenwa, SAN, the logo reflects the conference’s focus on democratic accountability, access to justice and inclusive development.
The conference, described as a premier gathering of stakeholders in the public interest and development sectors, will take place at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia.
The organisers also announced a substantial Early Bird discount for prospective delegates and said the conference would feature a range of topical issues to be examined by leading activists, lawyers and other stakeholders.
“The conference will provide a matchless platform for stakeholders in the public interest, democracy, and development sectors to brainstorm on live issues that are both topical and germane to the growth of the polity,” the statement said.
According to the organisers, the flagship event will bring together legal practitioners, jurists, policy makers, civil society actors, academics and members of the public for four days of plenary sessions, panel discussions and workshops examining the intersection of law, governance and national development.
They stated: “Delegates will engage with leading voices on access to justice, democratic accountability, and inclusive development in Nigeria, alongside opportunities for networking, continuing legal education, and collective reflection on the Section’s public interest mandate.
“The conference will also provide a platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and meaningful engagement on emerging issues in public interest law and practice.”
Beyond professional development and other sideline activities, the conference is expected to contribute to wider discussions on strengthening Nigeria’s judiciary, democratic institutions and development practices, particularly as the country approaches the 2027 general election.
Discussions are expected to focus on challenges affecting access to justice, the rule of law, judicial independence, accountability, constitutional governance, development and democratic participation, with a view to identifying practical approaches to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic practices.
As a section of the Nigerian Bar Association dedicated to public interest and development law, NBA-SPIDEL said the 2026 conference would continue its tradition of bringing lawyers and other stakeholders together to examine issues affecting society beyond individual legal disputes.
The conference is also expected to explore how the law can be deployed more effectively to protect the public interest, strengthen democratic institutions and promote national development.
The choice of Umuahia as host city has also attracted commendation from some stakeholders, with the organisers noting that Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, is viewed by many political analysts as one of the political actors who have significantly changed the face of democratic governance in the country.
NBA-SPIDEL, whose core objectives are aligned with the NBA’s motto of “promoting the rule of law,” is regarded by its supporters as one of the association’s key platforms for engagement on matters affecting the public interest.
The organisers said there were strong indications that thousands of lawyers and other stakeholders would attend the conference, which is expected to attract prominent figures from the legal profession, public interest advocacy and development sectors.
In addition to the Early Bird discount and the range of issues slated for discussion, Agomoh and Ezenwa said delegates would also have an opportunity to embark on a guided tour of selected tourist attractions in Abia State.
