The Federal Government has inaugurated 100 Renewed Hope Mass Transit electric buses to provide safer, more affordable and reliable transportation for federal civil servants across the country.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, inaugurated the buses in Abuja on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
Walson-Jack disclosed that 37 of the 100 buses had been delivered as the first instalment, while the remaining vehicles would be deployed under subsequent phases of the project.
She described the initiative as a practical demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the welfare and well-being of civil servants.
“For me, it is a dream come true. This inauguration is providentially my parting gift to my dearly beloved federal civil servants,” she said.
Walson-Jack, whose tenure as Head of the Civil Service ends on Thursday, August 27, said she could not have asked for a more fitting way to conclude her service than to receive and hand over the keys to an initiative that would continue benefiting workers after her departure.
She thanked President Bola Tinubu for supporting the project and the broader transformation of the Federal Civil Service.
According to her, transportation goes beyond moving workers from one location to another, as the daily commute affects their finances, safety, punctuality and productivity.
“An intervention that makes transportation safer, more reliable and more affordable is therefore not a peripheral welfare gesture; it is an investment in a more productive civil service,” she said.
The Head of Service stated that the buses would ease the financial burden on workers and reduce the risks associated with daily commuting.
She added that the initiative demonstrated how the Renewed Hope Agenda was being translated into practical interventions that workers could experience directly.
Walson-Jack disclosed that the acquisition of the buses was funded through the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund.
She commended the Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan Enoh, for supporting the initiative and undertaking the symbolic handover of the buses.
She also acknowledged the Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council, Joseph Osanipin, and his team for ensuring that the buses were developed in line with the objectives of the National Automotive Industry Development Plan.
Walson-Jack said workers’ welfare remained central to ongoing public service reforms, stressing that a supported and motivated workforce would be better positioned to serve Nigeria with commitment, professionalism and excellence.
Urging civil servants to protect the vehicles, she said: “My dearly beloved civil servants, treat these buses as your own personal assets. They are assets that have been provided for you all.”
Speaking earlier, Enoh described the inauguration as a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to improve the welfare of civil servants.
He said the deployment of the electric buses would ease transportation challenges faced by workers while advancing the government’s sustainability, clean-energy and development objectives.
The minister said the buses reflected the administration’s commitment to translating policies into interventions that directly affected Nigerians.
He commended Walson-Jack for her contributions to the Federal Civil Service and wished her well as she prepared to leave office.
Enoh confirmed that the 37 buses delivered constituted the initial phase of the 100-bus project, adding that the remaining vehicles would be deployed as planned.
