The Ekiti State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dayo Apata, SAN, has urged lawyers in the state to remain proactive in the discharge of their professional responsibilities while also creating time for rest and relaxation in order to improve productivity.

Apata gave the charge at a luncheon organised for lawyers in Ekiti State to commemorate the 2026 Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference.

The event, held in Ado-Ekiti, was designed to bring together lawyers serving in the state to interact, celebrate and relax while sharing in the experience associated with the NBA’s annual national gathering.

According to the Attorney-General, the demands of legal practice often leave practitioners with little time to rest, but lawyers must deliberately create time away from their busy schedules to relax.

He said doing so would enable them to return to their professional duties refreshed, more productive and better positioned to remain proactive in their work.

Apata explained that the luncheon was particularly intended to give lawyers who were unable to attend the NBA Annual General Conference an opportunity to participate in some of the social and professional benefits associated with the conference.

He said the initiative was conceived as a platform where lawyers in the state could come together, interact and strengthen professional relationships regardless of whether they were able to travel for the national conference.

The Attorney-General also paid tribute to former Attorneys-General of Ekiti State and officials of the Ministry of Justice for laying the foundation for the annual event.

He pledged to sustain the initiative and improve on it in subsequent years.

Also speaking, the Acting Permanent Secretary and Solicitor-General of the Ekiti State Ministry of Justice, Gbemiga Adaramola, commended Apata for sustaining the programme.

Adaramola said the event had taken on what he described as a new dimension since Apata assumed office as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

He attributed the development to Apata’s leadership style and commitment to inclusiveness.

According to him, not every lawyer in Ekiti State has the opportunity to attend the NBA’s national conference, making the state-level gathering important in enabling practitioners to share in some of the experiences and benefits enjoyed by colleagues attending the national event.

Adaramola also thanked the Attorney-General for creating opportunities for professional growth within the Ministry of Justice.

He said members of staff had continued to learn from Apata’s leadership and professional example.

The Acting Permanent Secretary added that several positive testimonies had been received about the Attorney-General’s leadership and prayed for continued divine guidance and protection for him.

In his remarks, Chairman of the NBA, Ikere-Ekiti Branch, Ayo Daramola, Esq., commended Apata for what he described as his leadership style and fatherly role towards lawyers across the state.

He also wished participants safe journeys to their various destinations.

Those present at the luncheon included a former Attorney-General of Ekiti State, Kolapo Kolade, SAN; the Special Adviser on Legal Matters, Niyi Idowu; directors in the Ministry of Justice; senior legal practitioners and other lawyers serving in the state.

The event formed part of activities marking the period of the 2026 NBA Annual General Conference and provided an opportunity for members of the legal profession in Ekiti to interact outside their usual work environment while reflecting on professional development and wellbeing.
