The Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has answered the member of the House of Representatives, James Faleke, days after the Osun State governorship election, rejecting the lawmaker’s suggestion that he confine himself to music and leave politics to politicians.

The singer spoke in an interview granted after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, winner of the 15 August poll.
Recounting the exchange, the singer said the lawmaker had responded to his posts by telling him to concentrate on his career.
“That one too retweeted me, saying that I should focus on my music. I said, well, politics is not a job,” he said.
He explained what he meant by it. “You are there to save the people.”
He then described what followed. “So he said, focus on your, let us focus on our politics. See, that’s the mentality. Let us focus on our politics.”
The singer turned the exchange into a warning directed at the political class as a whole.
“And let me tell you, you guys, well, you guys are getting old. Now your children go so far. I’m telling you, now your children go so far,” he said.
He said the shift was visible on election day itself. “It got to a point where it was the Osun people that were beating the people that were trying to seize,” he said. “People are tired. And they should be very scared.”
He drew a lesson for officeholders from his uncle’s result. “My uncle should be an example to all other government officials, governors. When you stand by the people, the people stand by you.”
The singer had earlier addressed the lawmaker directly on X during collation. “Hon. James Faleke, stop putting pressure on INEC to change Osun election result. Respect the wishes of Osun people. We don’t want Oyetola and AMBO,” he wrote, referring to the former governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola, and the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Faleke rejected the allegation. “I came to Osun to support my party’s candidate, while you supported your uncle’s party, Accord,” he said, adding: “INEC is a body that can’t be influenced by me or anyone else. I have never influenced or rigged before and I don’t plan to start now.”
It was the closing line of that reply that the singer answered in the interview. “Face your music while we face our politics,” the lawmaker had said.
The Commission declared the governor winner on Sunday morning with 511,067 votes against 444,815 for the All Progressives Congress candidate, a margin of 66,252 votes, and 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.
