The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the incumbent Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, winner of the 2026 governorship election.

Announcing the result, the Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, said the candidate of the Accord Party secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes.

The candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.

The declaration gives the governor a winning margin of 66,252 votes, and followed the collation of results from all 30 local government areas of the state.

Nineteen Councils To Eleven

The governor recorded the highest votes in 19 of the 30 local government areas, while the APC candidate led in 11.

Adeleke’s councils were Boluwaduro, Ede South, Ife North, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Ife Central, Orolu, Osogbo, Oriade, Odo-Otin, Ife East, Ifelodun, Iwo, Ede North, Ila, Ayedire, Egbedore, Ayedaade and Ejigbo.

Oyebamiji won Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun, Atakumosa West, Irewole, Atakumosa East, Isokan, Ola-Oluwa, Ife South and Olorunda.

The APC candidate also led in Atakumosa West, Atakumosa East, Isokan, Ola-Oluwa and Ife South.

The closest council contest was in Boluwaduro, where the governor polled 7,118 against 7,050, a margin of 68 votes. The ADC’s strongest showing among the figures supplied was in Ejigbo, where it polled 5,053.

The Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, celebrated the result on his X account shortly after the declaration.

Posting a video of himself reacting to the announcement, he wrote: “WE DID IT UNC !!! @aadeleke_01.” The video showed the singer visibly overcome, appearing to break down as the result sank in.

He had supported his uncle publicly throughout the voting and the collation, using his social media platforms as the process unfolded.

Celebrations broke out in the state capital on Sunday morning, with a large crowd gathering on the road and surrounding vehicles.

“Imole! Imole,” the crowd chanted, according to a video from the city. They also chanted: “The money is wasted, N50,000 is wasted.”
