*Davido Urges Agents To Publish Outstanding Results

Sporadic shooting was reported on Saturday night at Union Baptist Primary School in Osogbo, where the Ataoja D Ward 4 collation centre for the Osun State governorship election is located, as tension mounted over the collation and transmission of results.

The incident occurred between about 9:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., with security personnel reportedly firing several shots into the air and releasing canisters within the premises.

The gunfire, which lasted for more than 15 minutes, caused panic around the centre, forcing residents, party supporters and other persons nearby to run for safety.

Some residents had reportedly gathered around collation centres and the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Osogbo in what they described as an effort to “protect their votes” as result collation continued across the state.

It was not immediately clear what triggered the shooting or whether security personnel were responding to a specific threat or crowd disturbance. There was also no immediate confirmation of casualties.

Security agencies had yet to issue a detailed explanation of the incident as of the time of filing this report.

The shooting came amid growing attention on the transmission of polling-unit results to INEC’s Result Viewing Portal.

As of 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, 3,292 of the state’s 3,763 polling-unit results had been uploaded to IReV, representing 87.5 per cent and leaving 471 results outstanding.

The upload figure had reportedly remained unchanged since about 8:48 p.m., after steady transmission earlier in the evening.

Notably, all 30 local government areas in Osun still had at least one polling unit whose result sheet had yet to appear on the portal.

The pause prompted calls on INEC to complete the outstanding uploads and clarify whether any technical or operational problem was responsible for the delay.

Amid the concern, Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, urged political party agents in polling units and wards whose results had yet to appear on IReV to make the figures publicly available through the media.

“Please ask your party agents across the polling units, wards they’re yet to upload their results to start updating them on media!!” Davido wrote on X.

Davido, who has openly supported his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, and the Accord Party during the election, had earlier called on voters and party agents to remain vigilant and ensure that polling-unit results were properly recorded and uploaded.

His latest intervention came as political parties, observers and voters closely monitored the remaining 471 polling-unit results.

The timely publication of polling-unit results has become a major focus of the election because it allows party agents, observers and members of the public to compare polling-unit records with figures subsequently presented during collation.

It was not immediately clear whether the shooting at the Ataoja D Ward 4 collation centre interrupted the collation exercise inside the premises or whether officials were able to continue after calm returned.

INEC had also not, at the time of filing this report, announced the final outcome of the governorship election, with collation and result transmission still ongoing.
