The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has said its final report into the fatal road accident involving former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua will be released to the public within the next 30 to 60 days.

Director-General of the NSIB, Alex Badeh Jr., disclosed this on Friday while speaking virtually with transport journalists, explaining that the bureau had completed its investigation and forwarded its findings to the relevant stakeholders for their observations in accordance with the law governing accident investigations.
Badeh said the procedure required the bureau to circulate a draft report to appropriate stakeholders before the final version could be made public.
“The report on Anthony Joshua’s accident should be out to the public in the next 30 to 60 days. We have sent our findings to the appropriate quarters as required by the law. It’s after this that we can then release it to the public,” he said.
The NSIB boss, however, disclosed that the bureau did not receive the level of cooperation it had expected from the Nigeria Police during the investigation.
According to him, while the police provided some assistance, the bureau would have preferred greater cooperation from the force and other relevant agencies.
“On the police, we didn’t receive enough cooperation from them, but we received some. We would have loved to receive more from them and other necessary agencies,” Badeh said.
He explained that part of the difficulty arose from the police position that it possesses the statutory authority to investigate road traffic accidents.
Badeh noted that the question of jurisdiction over road accident investigations had also generated disagreements over the years between the police and the Federal Road Safety Corps.
He, however, stressed that the NSIB’s role differs from a criminal investigation because the bureau’s work is primarily aimed at identifying safety deficiencies and making recommendations to prevent similar accidents in the future rather than determining criminal liability or apportioning blame.
Badeh said the NSIB was working to strengthen its relationship with law enforcement and other government agencies to improve cooperation in future investigations.
He also noted that the appointment of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, a former police officer, had created additional opportunities for better inter-agency understanding and cooperation.
The crash occurred on December 29, 2025, in the Makun area of Ogun State along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Two members of Joshua’s team, Sina Ghami and Kevin “Latif” Ayodele, were killed in the accident, while Joshua sustained minor injuries.
The forthcoming report is expected to provide the bureau’s findings on the circumstances surrounding the crash and any safety recommendations arising from its investigation.
Badeh also used the briefing to raise concerns about statutory funding owed to the bureau by some agencies in the transport sector.
He said the NSIB was still awaiting statutory contributions from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency and the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
According to him, the bureau is entitled to three per cent from NIMASA and six per cent from the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
He said the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria had, however, continued to fulfil its financial obligations to the bureau.
Joshua has since returned to professional boxing following the accident.
Last month, he defeated Kristian Prenga by second-round knockout despite being floored twice during the bout.
Joshua dedicated the victory to the memory of Ghami and Ayodele, the two members of his team who died in the December 2025 crash.
With the investigation now completed, the NSIB said the final report will be released after the statutory review process involving relevant stakeholders is concluded.
