The senator representing Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Francis Fadahunsi, has arrived at the headquarters of the Osun State Police Command in Osogbo for questioning over alleged threatening and inciting remarks contained in a viral video.

Fadahunsi arrived at the command headquarters at about 2:35 p.m. on Wednesday in response to an invitation issued by the police authorities.

The invitation followed the circulation of a video in which the senator was allegedly heard making remarks threatening members and supporters of the Accord Party ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.

In a letter dated August 11, 2026, the police directed Fadahunsi to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo to clarify the circumstances surrounding the remarks allegedly made during an All Progressives Congress campaign programme in Ilesa.

The invitation, signed by the Commissioner of Police in charge of elections in Osun State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, stated that the police had received information alleging that the senator made statements considered threatening, inciting and intimidating.

According to the police, the remarks had already circulated widely across electronic and social media platforms, making it necessary to question the senator and determine their implications for public peace and security.

Fadahunsi had been directed to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department at 11 a.m. on Wednesday but arrived at the command headquarters at approximately 2:35 p.m.

The viral video generated widespread condemnation, with Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke demanding the senator’s arrest and investigation. Adeleke described the alleged remarks as a national security threat that had gone beyond partisan politics.

Amnesty International also called on the authorities to hold the senator accountable, alleging that the comments were capable of inciting violence ahead of the governorship election.

The senator’s team, however, maintained that his remarks had been misinterpreted. It said the statement was political and metaphorical, claiming that Fadahunsi was asking APC supporters to defeat the Accord Party through the ballot box rather than advocating violence.

His appearance at the police headquarters came amid heightened security concerns and growing calls for political actors to refrain from statements capable of provoking violence before, during and after Saturday’s election.
