The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has deployed Commissioner of Police Samuel Etaifo to coordinate security operations for the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.

The deployment, announced on Friday, forms part of the Nigeria Police Force’s election security strategy aimed at ensuring a peaceful, secure and credible governorship poll in the state.

Under the arrangement, Etaifo will oversee and coordinate all election-related security operations across Osun State. He is also expected to work closely with other security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission, political stakeholders and relevant institutions to safeguard voters, election officials and sensitive electoral materials.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the police clarified that Etaifo’s deployment does not amount to the replacement of the substantive Commissioner of Police in Osun State, CP Ibrahim Gotan.

The Force said Gotan remains in charge of the Osun State Command and will continue to oversee routine policing duties, while also providing the necessary administrative and operational support for the election.

According to the police, the deployment is part of its standard election security framework and should not be interpreted as a change in the leadership of the state command.

The IGP directed all officers deployed for election duties to maintain the highest level of professionalism, impartiality and strict adherence to the law.

He also charged them to comply fully with the Code of Conduct for Security Personnel on Electoral Duty and ensure that their actions promote public confidence in the electoral process.

Disu further appealed to political actors, party supporters and residents of Osun State to remain peaceful, law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies before, during and after the election.
