The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has shut down several facilities belonging to Inner Galaxy Steel across the country over alleged links to railway vandalism and the recycling of stolen public infrastructure materials.

The action followed a court order secured by the Corps after operatives reportedly traced vandalised railway components to one of the company’s premises located in Birnin Yero, in Kaduna State’s Igabi Local Government Area.
Speaking during an inspection of the facility on Sunday, the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, said investigations were ongoing into allegations ranging from conspiracy and theft to the destruction of railway infrastructure and acts capable of endangering passengers.
According to him, the agency also suspects the involvement of individuals connected to the financing of criminal activities tied to the vandalism.
Afolabi explained that the court order empowered the Corps to seal the premises and recover railway sleepers and tracks allegedly found at the location. He added that the recovered items had been handed over to the Nigerian Railway Corporation as evidence for prosecution.
He stated that the closure would remain in place until investigations are concluded.
The NSCDC spokesman further disclosed that the order extended to facilities associated with Inner Galaxy Steel Company and Jiuxing Integrity Industrial Ltd in Abia and Zamfara states, alongside any other branches considered relevant to the probe.
He alleged that some workers arrested during the operation confessed that stolen railway materials and other government infrastructure were routinely transported to the factories, where they were melted and converted into products including roofing sheets and nails.
Afolabi also revealed that several Chinese nationals connected to the companies had been invited for questioning but had yet to honour the invitation.
The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Audi, urged Nigerians to assist security agencies with useful information capable of exposing vandals and economic saboteurs.
Audi directed officers attached to the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad, led by Appollos Dandaura, to conduct the investigation thoroughly and professionally.
He maintained that anyone found guilty would face prosecution in accordance with the law.
The NSCDC boss reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to protect critical national assets and curb the increasing destruction of public infrastructure across the country.
The Corps also praised the judiciary for approving the court order and commended media organisations for supporting efforts to expose economic crimes.
Nigeria has continued to battle incidents of railway vandalism and attacks on public infrastructure, despite major investments by the Federal Government in rail transport projects such as the Abuja-Kaduna and Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge lines.
Security agencies have repeatedly warned that the theft and destruction of railway materials pose serious risks to public safety and place additional financial burdens on the government.
