The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has resolved the recent leadership dispute in its Kano state chapter, reaffirming Hon. Husaini Isah Mai Riga, who accused Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of trying to hijack the party structure in the state, as the substantive chairman.

The disagreement followed the entry of former Kano State governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, into the party.

His arrival had triggered tension within the state chapter, with some members questioning Mai Riga’s continued leadership.

Mai Riga, who had initially resisted attempts to unseat him, maintained that his mandate was legitimate and insisted he would not relinquish his position without due process.

The standoff drew the attention of the party’s national leadership, which convened a special meeting on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Sen. Seriake Henry Dickson.

The meeting, attended by Kwankwaso, NDC Northwest vice chairman Engr. Muhammad Sabo Bakin Zuwo, and other senior leaders, ended with a resolution affirming Mai Riga as Kano chairman.

Party insiders said Kwankwaso agreed that the party chairman retains his seat while he was compensated with other positions.

Speaking after the resolution, Mai Riga expressed gratitude to the national leadership and Kano people for their support during the dispute.

He also tendered an apology to those he may have offended in recent days, saying the outcome reflected the wisdom of the party’s leaders.

He also said they had agreed to give 60 percent of the leadership structure to Kwankwaso while retaining him as chairman.
