The factional National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, backed by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has ratified the appointment of a 13-member Caretaker Committee headed by Tanimu Turaki, SAN.

The decision was taken on Monday in Abuja during the Makinde-backed 103rd NEC meeting of the party.
The motion for the ratification of the caretaker committee was moved by the Edo State PDP Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, and seconded by the party’s ex officio member, Clement Fagboyede.
Turaki was appointed chairman of the caretaker committee, while Taofeek Arapaja was named National Secretary.
Other members of the committee include Daniel Ambrose, Hamza Abuya, Ihediwa, Isah Abubakar, Theophilus Dakashan, Ini Ememobong, Aribisala Adewale Idowu, Baru Shaffi, and Okechukwu Obiechina.
Prominent party stakeholders who attended the Monday NEC meeting include Governor Seyi Makinde, former Minister of Special Duties Tanimu Turaki, former Governor of Niger State Babangida Muazu, former Minister of Information Professor Jerry Gana, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and former Minister of Women Affairs Zainab Maina, among others.
The group also maintained that the Abuja convention which produced the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee of the PDP is null and void.
In line with the PDP constitution, they insisted that a caretaker committee be established whenever there is a leadership vacuum and urged the Board of Trustees, led by Adolphus Wabara, to carry out that responsibility, which the board eventually did.
The development comes amid the continuing leadership crisis in the PDP following recent court decisions affecting competing leadership structures within the party.
