Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been dragged into a legal dispute in Italy after German automaker Mercedes-Benz reportedly filed a criminal complaint over an alleged unpaid vehicle leasing debt.

According to reports from Italian outlet Il Giorno, Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Italia S.p.A. lodged the complaint with authorities in Milan, accusing the Galatasaray forward of failing to meet payment obligations tied to a luxury Mercedes GLE hybrid SUV leased in 2023 during his time at Napoli.

The company alleged that Osimhen defaulted on instalment payments under the agreement, leading to accumulated arrears estimated at about €90,000 (approximately ₦140 million). It was further claimed that the vehicle was not returned at the expiration of the lease, raising issues bordering on alleged misappropriation.

The complaint was reportedly filed at the Crescenzago Carabinieri station, with Osimhen expected to respond through his legal representatives. As of the time of filing this report, neither the player nor his management team has issued an official response.

The development comes amid the striker’s impressive run of form, having recently scored in Galatasaray’s victory over Fenerbahce, marking his first goal in over a month.

Osimhen, who was crowned the 2023 CAF Player of the Year, is one of Africa’s highest-earning footballers. He reportedly earned around €10 million annually during his time in Italy before moving to Galatasaray in 2024, where his earnings rose significantly to over €18–20 million per year.

The alleged dispute has drawn attention due to the player’s financial profile, although contractual disagreements involving high-value leasing arrangements are not uncommon.

Known for his taste in luxury automobiles, Osimhen has been associated with high-end vehicles, including customised Mercedes-Benz models, Lamborghinis, and Rolls-Royce cars.

Despite the controversy, the Nigerian international continues to enjoy strong support from fans, recently sponsoring travel for supporters to attend a major derby match in Istanbul.
