Youth members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are set to stage coordinated protests at offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos, Ogun and Jigawa states today, intensifying calls for the removal of INEC Chairman, Joash Ojo Amupitan.

The demonstrations, organised under the hashtag #AmupitanMustGo, form part of what organisers describe as a broader campaign to demand accountability and adherence to due process amid ongoing political tensions.

The party’s National Youth Leader, Balarabe Rufai, disclosed the plans in a post on X on Monday, where he shared flyers for the protests tagged “Operation Occupy INEC.”

According to Rufai, the Lagos protest is scheduled to commence at 8 a.m. from Yaba College of Technology, while the Ogun demonstration will begin at 11 a.m. at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) office in Abeokuta. Details of the Jigawa protest were not immediately available as of press time.

The planned action follows an earlier protest by ADC youths at the INEC office in Lagos, where demonstrators carried placards demanding the resignation of the electoral commission’s chairman and the recognition of a factional leadership within the party.

Rufai described the protests as peaceful civic engagement aimed at defending democratic values.

“This is a call for accountability, not chaos,” he said, stressing that the rule of law must be upheld in addressing disputes affecting the party and the electoral process.

The mobilisation also comes weeks after a high-profile “Occupy INEC” protest held in Abuja on April 8, which drew prominent opposition figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Rotimi Amaechi, Rauf Aregbesola, and Dino Melaye.

Observers say the growing wave of protests signals mounting pressure on the electoral body as political alignments and disputes continue to unfold ahead of the 2027 general elections.
