The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on Thursday visited Plateau State following the deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area.

During the visit to the Government House in Jos, the IGP, who was received by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, condemned the Sunday night attack and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.

Disu described the killing of residents as tragic and unacceptable, assuring that the police would intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.

He disclosed that the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Umar Nadada, had earlier been deployed to the state to assess the situation and coordinate security operations with other agencies.

The police boss also commiserated with the state government and families of victims affected by the attack.

Responding, Mutfwang thanked President Bola Tinubu and security chiefs for their support, expressing optimism that Plateau would overcome its long-standing security challenges.

The governor noted that insecurity in the state predates his administration, recalling that previous governors, including Joshua Dariye, Jonah Jang and Simon Lalong, also grappled with the crisis.

“It is when you sit on this seat that you appreciate the magnitude of the problem,” he said.

Mutfwang urged residents to remain vigilant and cautioned against the spread of misinformation on social media, which he said fuels tension.

He also announced stricter enforcement of the ban on commercial motorcycles, often linked to criminal activities, and pledged to improve the state’s transport system.

The governor added that security agencies were already pursuing useful leads from the Angwan Rukuba attack.
