U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that the Strait of Hormuz will remain open “one way or another,” saying the United States and its allies may deploy warships to secure the strategic shipping route amid escalating tensions with Iran.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Saturday, Trump said several countries would join the United States in sending naval forces to ensure the free passage of ships through the vital waterway. He warned that American forces could target Iranian vessels if they attempt to block international shipping.

The warning came shortly after the United States launched a major military strike on Kharg Island, a key Iranian oil export hub in the Persian Gulf. Trump said the operation destroyed Iranian military installations on the island but deliberately avoided damaging its oil infrastructure.

According to the U.S. president, the strike was “one of the most powerful bombing raids in the history of the Middle East,” targeting military facilities linked to Iran’s naval and defense operations. However, he cautioned that the decision to spare the island’s oil facilities could change if Iran continues to interfere with shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

“I have chosen not to wipe out the oil infrastructure on the island,” Trump said. “However, should Iran, or anyone else, interfere with the free and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, I will immediately reconsider that decision.”

The development comes more than two weeks after the outbreak of a broader conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran, which Washington says is aimed at dismantling Tehran’s nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities. Reports indicate that additional U.S. Marines and naval forces are being deployed to the region as tensions continue to escalate.

Iran, however, has shown no signs of backing down. Its new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, has vowed to continue blocking shipping routes near Iran’s coast and has threatened retaliation against U.S. and allied forces.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, with roughly 20 percent of global oil supplies passing through the narrow waterway. Disruptions to shipping in the area have already triggered sharp increases in oil prices and raised fears of wider economic consequences worldwide.
