Two executive members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Wuse Ward, Abuja, have approached the Federal High Court seeking to restrain the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, from parading herself as a member of the party.

The suit follows the suspension of Kingibe by the Wuse Ward Executive of the party.

However, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ADC had earlier dismissed the purported suspension of the senator.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the NWC said it was not aware of any expulsion or suspension of Kingibe.

Despite the NWC’s position, the Chairman of ADC Wuse Ward, Okezuo Kanayo, and the Ward Secretary, Isaiah Samuel, on Friday filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja through their counsel, Dr Maxwell Opara.

The originating motion, dated and filed on March 13, seeks several declaratory orders from the court.

The plaintiffs are asking the court to declare that, by virtue of the ADC Constitution, the Wuse Ward Executive Committee has the authority to discipline and suspend any member of the party within its jurisdiction.

They also seek a declaration affirming that the suspension of Senator Kingibe by the Wuse Ward Executive Committee remains valid and subsisting.

In addition, the plaintiffs asked the court to declare that the senator cannot lawfully present herself as a card-carrying member of the party during the period of the suspension.

They further prayed the court to hold that the National Working Committee of the ADC cannot lawfully recognise Kingibe as a member of the party at any level while the suspension subsists.

The plaintiffs also urged the court to affirm and validate the ward’s decision to suspend the lawmaker.

In an affidavit deposed to by the Ward Secretary, Samuel stated that Kingibe is a registered member of the ADC under the Wuse Ward.

He averred that sometime in 2026 the ward executive committee received complaints regarding alleged actions by the senator that were contrary to the constitution of the party.

According to him, during the ward’s general meeting held on March 10, members reviewed Kingibe’s activities since she joined the party and allegedly discovered several infractions.

Samuel alleged that the senator confiscated the ward register, an action he said contravened provisions of the party’s constitution.

He also claimed that Kingibe had persistently absented herself from ward meetings since joining the party.

According to him, the senator also failed to pay statutory party obligations, including membership registration fees, dues and levies.

He stated that after deliberations, the ward executive committee resolved to suspend the senator pending further disciplinary action.

Samuel added that the suspension was ratified by a two-thirds majority of the ward executive during the general meeting and was subsequently communicated to the senator and other relevant organs of the party.

He maintained that it would be in the interest of justice for the court to determine the issues raised in the suit.

The case is yet to be assigned to a judge.
