Former Nigeria U-20 Flying Eagles captain and Molde FK midfielder, Daniel Daga, has been sentenced to six months in prison by the Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court in Norway.

The conviction stems from a sexual act carried out without the consent of the other party, linked to an incident reported in April 2025.

Molde Football Club confirmed that Daga’s lawyer has filed an appeal, stressing that the sentence is not legally final and will continue to be processed through the Norwegian legal system. “The case is therefore not legally binding and will be processed further in the legal system,” the club said.

The club also announced that Daga will not participate in the match squad for the foreseeable future due to the ongoing legal proceedings. “The player will not be part of the match squad until further notice due to the situation and the ongoing legal process,” Molde FK added.

Norwegian media outlet VG reported the player’s identity, noting that as an elite league player with a public role, the case could have implications for the club’s future decisions.

The outlet highlighted that Daga’s age, 19, is considered legally adult, and being a regular first-team player justified public identification. VG also stated that naming the player helps prevent speculation about other club members and clarifies who is involved in the case.

Molde FK emphasized that it will continue to monitor the situation closely as the legal proceedings unfold, while Daga pursues his appeal.
