The Rivers State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed five of the nine commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, while rejecting four others over controversies and alleged poor performance during the screening exercise.

The plenary session, held on Monday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, was televised, allowing the public to witness the proceedings. Following deliberations, the lawmakers resolved that the Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule, should formally write to Governor Fubara, advising him to inaugurate only the five confirmed nominees.

The confirmed nominees are:

  • Mr. Tonye Bellgam
  • Professor Temple Nwofor
  • Dr. Peters Nwagor
  • Mr. Lekue Kenneth
  • Sir Amairigha Edward Hart

The four nominees who were not confirmed include:

  • Professor Datonye Alasia
  • Mrs. Charity Deemua
  • Tamuno Williams
  • Otonye TKD Amachree

The Assembly cited controversies surrounding the documentation and performance of the rejected nominees as the basis for their disqualification. The decision ensures that only the five confirmed individuals are eligible to be inaugurated as commissioners in Rivers State.
