The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has terminated the appointment of one of its staff members over alleged extortion of unsuspecting candidates, as the examination body intensifies its campaign against fraud and misconduct within and outside the organisation.

JAMB disclosed the development in its latest bulletin released on Monday, September 21, 2026, saying the dismissal demonstrated that its efforts to sanitise Nigeria’s admission and examination processes would not be restricted to tackling external fraudsters.
The Board did not disclose the identity, office or location of the affected staff member, nor the amount allegedly collected from candidates.
It, however, said the employee was found to have engaged in conduct involving the exploitation of candidates, resulting in the termination of the appointment in accordance with established rules.
“The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has terminated the appointment of one of its staff members for extorting unsuspecting candidates, in further demonstration of its renewed commitment to flushing out bad eggs from the system,” the Board stated.
JAMB said its anti-fraud drive would apply equally to members of its workforce, stressing that personnel who abuse their positions or take advantage of candidates and members of the public would not be protected from disciplinary action.
According to the Board, the same determination it has applied in pursuing individuals and syndicates accused of examination and admission fraud outside the organisation is now being brought to bear on internal misconduct.
“The Board stated that its resolve to sanitise the admission and examination processes is not targeted at external fraudsters alone, stressing that the same determination with which it has relentlessly pursued and dealt with fraudulent elements outside the Board is being brought to bear on internal misconduct,” it said.
JAMB described the dismissal as a warning to employees that its zero-tolerance policy on corruption and misconduct applies across the organisation irrespective of rank or position.
“The Board noted that the action sends a clear and unequivocal message that its zero-tolerance policy on corruption and misconduct applies to everyone, irrespective of status or position,” it added.
The examination body further warned that it would not shield employees who cross ethical boundaries or exploit the trust reposed in them by candidates and members of the public.
JAMB said having taken action against external actors accused of defrauding candidates, it would be inconsistent to spare officials within the Board who engage in similar conduct.
It consequently cautioned members of staff to desist from acts capable of undermining the integrity of the Board, compromising its operations or exploiting candidates.
“Accordingly, the Board once again warned all members of staff to desist from all forms of unwholesome conduct, particularly acts capable of undermining the integrity of the Board or exploiting candidates and members of the public, as such actions would attract severe consequences in accordance with established rules,” JAMB said.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining what it described as a clean, professional and accountable workforce, insisting that its campaign against malpractice must also address wrongdoing from within the institution.
