The Senate of the University of Calabar has suspended nine students for one academic session over their involvement in examination misconduct.

The university said the affected students would stay away from academic activities throughout the 2026/2027 session and are expected to resume their studies in the 2027/2028 academic session.
The decision was disclosed in a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Unit and made available to journalists in Calabar on Monday.
According to the statement, the suspension was conveyed to the affected students through letters signed by the Registrar, Dr Chukwuka Icha.
The university said the disciplinary action followed the approval of the Senate based on recommendations submitted by its Examination Misconduct Committee.
“The affected students have been suspended for the 2026/2027 academic session and are expected to resume their studies in the 2027/2028 academic session,” the statement said.
Five of the suspended students are from the Department of Theatre and Media Studies in the Faculty of Arts.
The remaining four students are drawn from the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics in the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Department of Geology in the Faculty of Physical Sciences, Department of Pharmacology in the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, and Department of Sociology in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
The university did not disclose the individual names of the affected students or provide specific details of the examination offences attributed to each of them.
It, however, directed the Acting Chief Security Officer, deans, heads of departments and other relevant units of the institution to take note of the suspension and ensure full compliance with the Senate’s decision.
The sanction means that the nine students will lose the entire 2026/2027 academic session before being permitted to return to their respective programmes in the following academic year.
