The US and Israel pressed their week-long campaign against Iran with fresh overnight strikes, targeting oil storage depots and refining facilities in Tehran for the first time. Massive fires and thick black smoke lit up the capital’s skyline, with explosions rocking multiple sites, including areas in nearby Karaj and Alborz provinces.

President Trump doubled down on his hardline stance, repeating demands for Iran’s “unconditional surrender.”

“The war will only end when Tehran’s leaders cry uncle or their military is no longer functional,” he said. Trump added that the US has “maximum” negotiating leverage but is “not looking to settle,” and dismissed any immediate deal. He also ruled out Kurdish forces entering the conflict, saying: “We don’t want to make the war more complex than it already is.”

On Iran’s depleted missile and drone capabilities, Trump claimed they are now launching just 9% of what they fired in the opening days, attributing it to US-Israeli strikes that have knocked out 70% of their rocket launchers. “They’re being decimated now,” he said. “At some point, I don’t think there’ll be anybody left to say ‘we surrender.’”

The Israeli military confirmed it has begun another round of attacks on Iranian government infrastructure across the country.

Gulf states under fire

  • UAE: Air defences are actively responding to incoming Iranian missiles and drones, with explosions and interception sounds reported across the country.
  • Kuwait: Two border security personnel were killed on duty after a suspected Iranian drone struck the Public Institution for Social Security headquarters in Kuwait City, engulfing the high-rise in flames. Fires were also reported at the international airport.
  • Saudi Arabia: Authorities foiled an attempted attack on Riyadh’s diplomatic quarter and downed several drones.

Israel bombed a hotel in downtown Beirut’s Raouche neighbourhood traditionally a Sunni area killing at least four people and wounding 10. The strike hit a building housing displaced people and marks a significant expansion of Israel’s targeting into non-Shia districts, including Christian and Druze areas. Analysts warn this risks inflaming sectarian tensions and deterring Lebanese communities from sheltering the hundreds of thousands displaced by the fighting. “Nowhere in Lebanon is safe,” residents say.

In an apparently unrelated incident, an explosion struck the US Embassy in Oslo, Norway around 1:00 a.m. local time (00:00 GMT). No injuries were reported, only minor damage to an entrance. Thick smoke was seen rising from the compound. Norwegian police launched a major investigation using dogs, drones, helicopters, and a bomb squad, but said it is “very early” and have not linked the incident to the Middle East conflict.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Saturday. Erdoğan warned that prolonged US-Israeli interventions in Iran could cause “significant damage to regional and global stability” and urged efforts to build a dialogue platform. Both sides reaffirmed strong bilateral ties, especially in defence.

Human Rights Watch called for an investigation into an earlier Israeli strike on a girls’ school in Minab, Iran, as a possible war crime.
